E2 Advocacy Projects: Develop a Renewable Biofuels Market in California

Objective

Nearly 100 percent of California's transportation system is currently fueled by fossil fuels. A more diversified approach to fuels and higher efficiency vehicles will help reduce greenhouse gas pollution from motor vehicles, reduce the state's dependence on foreign oil and encourage a healthy alternative fuels market that would benefit the agriculture and bio-tech industries.

Current Status:

AB 1007 has directed the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to develop a strategy for increasing the use of alternative fuels. The final State Alternative Plan adopted by CARB and the California Energy Commission (CEC) sets out alternative fuel goals coupled with a series of implementing requirements. Dec 5, 2007 - CEC adopts its final State Alternative Fuels Plan report.

Jan 9, 2007 - Gov. Schwarzenegger announces executive order establishing a low-carbon fuel standard for the state.

Sep 29, 2005 - Governor Schwarzenegger signs AB 1007 into law.

Sep 7, 2005 - AB 1007 passes out of the Senate.

Jun 2, 2005 - AB 1007 passes in the Assembly by a bipartisan vote of 49 to 27. Read newsletter article.
