Please find below Volume 15 of E2’s weekly wrap-up of job announcements and project developments in the clean economy. Compiled from news sources around the country, this week’s clean energy jobs report highlights a number of solar and wind projects throughout the nationIn the Southwest and West regions, three new solar power generation projects are set to create hundreds of new jobs. In Imperial Valley, CA, 8minutenergy Renewables signed a power contract with San Diego Gas and Electric for its 200 MW Mount Signal Solar project that will create 450 jobs. Matinee Energy unveiled plans to build a new solar research and manufacturing facility in Benson, AZ that could lead to up to 600 new jobs. Along with the new plant, the company will develop a training program for the local workforce.
Wind generation projects also feature prominently in this week’s newsletter, including the commissioning of BP’s wind farm in West Texas and Oklahoma Gas & Electric’s 227.5MW in Dewey County, OK, which had employed.650 construction workers. Siemens announced the opening of a new wind turbine distribution center, and expects to hire 20-25 veterans. Several new efficiency and manufacturing projects were also spotlighted.

The Focus on Energy initiative has created 41 jobs statewide through its residential energy efficiency programs; the project works with Wisconsin residents and businesses to manage rising energy costs, promote in-state economic development and protect the environment.

OG&E completed the 227.5MW Crossroads Wind Farm; consisting of 95 Siemens turbines, which will generate enough electricity for approximately 70,000 homes.

Siemens announced the opening of a new 64,000 sq. ft. wind turbine distribution center in Woodward, OK; more than half of the employees hired are veterans.

BP announced the completion of the 150 MW Sherbino 2 Wind Farm in West Texas; which will generate enough electricity to power 45,000 average American homes; BP now has more than 1,000 wind turbines across 7 states.

Matinee Energy unveiled plans to build a solar research and manufacturing facility; the project is expected to boost the local economy with 600 jobs; the company will also be partnering with Cochise College for local workforce training.

8minutenergy Renewables announced plans for a 200MW solar farm; the energy generated by the Mount Signal Solar project, enough to power 72,000 homes, will be sold to SDG&E under a 25-year contract.

OneRoof Energy received $50 million in financing to create the SolarSelect Lease Program; the money raised will enable the company to buy residential power systems for as many as 1,200 homes.

Edeniq plans to inaugurate its new pilot cellulosic ethanol plant this coming March; the project received a $25 million grant from the DOE to retrofit the plant enabling fuel production from various biomass feedstocks.
