WHAT CLEAN ENERGY JOBS? THESE CLEAN ENERGY JOBS!

Please find below Volume 19 of E2’s weekly wrap-up of job announcements and project developments in the clean economy.  Compiled from news sources around the country, this week’s clean energy jobs report highlights a number of wind and energy efficiency projects throughout the nation.

Wind generation projects featured prominently in this week’s newsletter. In the Northeast, Passadumkeag Windpark LLC submitted a proposal to build a 42MW wind farm in Passadumkeag Mountain, ME, that will potentially create 30-45 construction jobs as well as 5-10 full-time jobs. Wasatch Wind announced that its Pioneer Wind Park project currently underway in Converse, WY, will generate both hundreds of jobs and $14 million in tax revenues over the next 20 years.

In Woodford, IL, Algonquin Power and Utilities Corporation announced an $888 million transaction with Gamesa Technology Corp. to develop 4 wind projects, the first of which, the 200MW Minonk Wind Farm, is set to create 150-200 construction jobs and 10 or more full-time jobs.

Aiming to boost public transportation infrastructural investments, the Department of Transportation awarded a $130 million contract to the Middlesex Corporation to build a 9.4-mile bus way in Hartford, CT that will also include seven stations and a bridge, creating over 4,000 construction jobs and 100 full-time jobs.

Spotlight on Classic Metal Roofing

Classic Metal Roofing, based outside of Dayton in Piqua, Ohio, manufactures durable roofs that cut down on air conditioning costs while also minimizing raw resource consumption. With a heat reflective coating, air gap in middle to act as an insulating thermal buffer, and mostly recycled metal content, the durable roofs provide a much more environmentally sound alternative to asphalt roofs—the metal roofs’ paint alone has an integrity warranty almost triple the lifespan of asphalt shingles (40 years vs. 17).

The family company was founded in 1980 by current president Todd Miller’s father.  Making their roofs from recycled materials since early on -- ”when it was taboo to talk about [from a marketing perspective],” says Miller -- their steel roofs currently contain 35 percent recycled content, while their aluminum roofs are almost entirely comprised of recycled metal.  The company currently employs 45 people in Piqua, with more workers in other U.S.-based factories.
