Ecosalon on "Breaking the Chain: Viable Alternatives for a Sustainable Energy
Future"
With energy moving to center stage in both world events and the legislative agenda in Washington, E2 New England's May 27th Sustainable Energy Ecosalon attracted over 80 people with a theme closely linked to NRDC's Breaking the Chain campaign. Held in Boston at the offices of Bingham McCutchen, the event focused on practical solutions for transitioning America from a fossil fuel-based economy to sustainable energy options, with special focus on hydrogen alternatives. The keynote speaker, Bob Shaw, President of the venture capital firm Arete, is widely recognized as the father of energy venture investing. His talk focused on the movement from heavily carbon-based energy sources towards a hydrogen economy using technology that is available, commercially viable and ready for deployment today. Bob suggested a practical, incremental approach to implementing a hydrogen transportation infrastructure using duel powered vehicles and a small number of hydrogen fueling stations in a few pilot cities. Dan Goldman moderated a panel that addressed the complex challenges of both supply and demand side approaches to achieving energy sustainability in the context of a challenging political environment.
