Please find below Volume 24 of Environmental Entrepreneurs’ (E2’s) bi-weekly wrap-up of job announcements and project developments in the clean economy. Compiled from news sources around the country, this week’s clean energy jobs report highlights a number of solar, wind and transportation projects throughout the nation, as well as reports of emerging trends in the energy space. DuPont has inaugurated its upgraded Circleville, OH production facility; the new plant will produce solar power components, and bring 25 jobs to the region each year. Lectrus, a solar equipment manufacturer, announced that it is looking to hire 30 additional employees at its company’s Chattanooga, TN plant, including full-time electricians, welders, painters and quality inspectors. Motech Industries, a manufacturer of PV modules, announced plans to hire new workers to join the 55 employees currently working at the Newark, DE plant. Atlantic Power has begun work on its 300MW Canadian Hills Wind farm in Oklahoma; the $470 million project will generate enough electricity to power about 100,000 homes. Meanwhile, Consumers Energy is on schedule in construction of the 100MW Lake Winds Energy Park facility. Once operational, the wind farm will account for nearly $4 million per year of direct and indirect economic impact to Mason County, MI. Spotlight on Applied Energy Technologies Applied Energy Technologies, headquartered outside of Detroit in Clinton Township, Michigan, is leveraging American ingenuity from the auto industry into a different sector: solar manufacturing. Founded several years go by current president and CEO, Craig Winn, and his team of three engineers from the automotive industry, AET has grown rapidly, increasing from two employees to nearly 50 in only three years. The secret to their success is in their manufacturing process, employing precision techniques used in automotive manufacturing to make high-quality solar racking systems, the metal frames used to hold up solar panels on the ground or on rooftops. AET’s workforce includes many who were formerly employed in the auto industry, but lost their jobs during the recession. This year AET has doubled its production capacity opening a new plant in Ohio.
