Current Status:
AB 1493 was signed into California law in July 2002 and on June 30, 2009, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency finally granted a waiver that allows the stringent tailpipe emissions standards to take effect. Twenty other states have either formally adopted the California regulations or are in the process of doing so. Milestones:
Sep 2004 - CARB passes its AB 1493 regulations (read summary).
