Current Status:
Comprehensive energy and climate legislation will not be voted upon by the Senate in 2010 or 2011. Both chambers are working on energy-only measures mostly emphasizing offshore drilling issues. E2 will continue to work on much of the clean energy policy at the state level. Milestones:
Jul 22, 2010 - Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) announces the Senate will not be taking up comprehensive climate and energy legislation this year. Jun 29, 2010 - President Obama hosts a bipartisan meeting with 23 senators on energy and climate policy. Jun 10, 2010 - In a 53-47 vote, the Senate defeated a bill by Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) that would have prevented the EPA from regulating CO2 emissions from power plants and large factories. May 12, 2010 - Senators John Kerry (D-MA) and Joe Lieberman (I-CT) released their long-awaited draft of the American Power Act. Dec 11, 2009 - Maria Cantwell (D-WA) introduces S. 2877, the "Carbon Limits and Energy for America''s Renewal (CLEAR) Act." Nov 5, 2009 - The Senate Environment & Public Works committee passes the Boxer-Kerry bill. Sep 30, 2009 - The Senate introduces the Clean Energy Jobs and American Power Act (Boxer-Kerry). Jul 16, 2009 - Jeff Bingaman (D-NM) introduces S. 1462, the "American Clean Energy Leadership Act of 2009" (ACELA). Jun 26, 2009 - The House passes ACES by a bipartisan vote of 219-212. Mar 31, 2009 - The House Energy & Commerce Committee releases a draft bill, the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009 (ACES).
