E2Alert: Write to Governor Davis to urge him to sign AB 1493
As you know, last night the California Legislature passed AB 1493 (formerly AB 1058), reaffirming the state?s worldwide leadership in pollution safeguards and clean vehicle technologies. This is the first legislation of its kind in the entire country. E2 members played a crucial role in getting this bill passed.
Governor Gray Davis has 12 days after he receives the bill to sign it into law. We think he will receive it around July 7th. As you know the Governor has indicated publicly that he wanted to see this bill come across his desk and he has made very encouraging comments that he thinks this is good public policy. However, he has yet to formally state that he will sign the bill into law. Given the tight timeframe, we urge everyone to write a letter to the Governor, on your business or personal letterhead, and remind him of this opportunity to improve California air quality and reduce global warming pollution from passenger vehicles. California is a leader in technology and innovation, and AB 1493 provides the opportunity for Californian?s to begin to curb Climate Change. We have provided two sample letters to Governor Davis. If you attended the luncheon in Palo Alto on May 23 with the Governor, please use the May 23 Letter. Otherwise, you can use the General Letter. Please send it to Hayley Sloan at the NRDC office, 71 Stevenson #1825, SF CA 94105, where we will hand deliver it to Governor Davis? staff on Thursday, July 11. We recommend you read NRDC?s Press Release which explains how the bill passed the legislature and how the bill will reduce global warming pollution from cars in California. You can also view the most recent version of AB 1493 which was amended this weekend by the Senate. PLEASE TAKE ACTION IMMEDIATELY. WE NEED ALL LETTERS AT THE NRDC OFFICE BY END OF BUSINESS ON WEDNESDAY, JULY 1O. Many thanks for all your support. ? Bob and Nicole |
