From Rhetoric To Reality: Experts Set The Record Straight On Clean Energy (Washington, D.C.)

As Congress prepares to consider a federal clean energy standard, Media Matters for America and Environmental Entrepreneurs will hold a press conference call on why sustained support of clean energy is good for business in America.

For too long, a focus on the failure of a handful of companies has dominated the public discourse around clean energy.  Meanwhile, scores of success stories surrounding emerging and established American businesses go unrecognized. The renewable energy industry is in fact flourishing in America, creating jobs and lowering the cost of energy – and will keep doing so if we let it. The clean tech industry grew more than twice as fast as the rest of the economy between 2003 and 2010, according to the Brookings Institution. And in just the first quarter of 2012, Environmental Entrepreneurs found that the clean energy industry announced a total of 140 projects in 42 states representing as many as 46,000 new jobs.

This panel of energy policy experts and business leaders will offer fresh perspectives on the clean energy industry – its opportunities and its challenges – and explain why continued federal support for private sector investment and clear U.S. policy direction are needed.
