NRDC New York Forces for Nature Benefit (New York City) BenefitThursday, April 15, 2010 (6:30 PM - 9:30 PM)NRDC's 12th Annual Forces for Nature Event will take place on April 15, 2010. This year's honorees include Tony and Shelly Malkin and Sheryl Crow. Sheryl Crow is a true force for nature. Sheryl represents the power of the entertainment industry to help build an army to combat environmental issues like global warming. She is a nine-time Grammy award winning singer-songwriter and is being honored for her involvement with, among other things, the Stop Global Warming Virtual March. Sheryl went on a multi-city tour across America to educate college students about global warming. She has also invested in a solar energy installation on her Tennessee farm, launched an eco-friendly clothing company called Bootheel Trading Co. that features clothes made from fair trade cotton and denim, and when touring, commands the use of biodiesel on all the accompanying tour busses. Shelly and Tony Malkin share a deep commitment environmental stewardship both personally and professionally. They have demonstrated the role that business can and must play in transforming buildings into healthier more sustainable places to work by retrofitting the Empire State Building to make it the largest green office building in the world. They have also been long standing friends and supporters of NRDC, Shelly has been an active board member since 1997 and Tony currently serves on the advisory board of NRDC’s Center for Market Innovation. "Body of Lies" is directed by Academy Award nominee Ridley Scott ("Black Hawk Down," "Gladiator") from a screenplay by Oscar winner William Monahan ("The Departed") based on the novel by former Washington Post columnist David Ignatius. After the premiere screening, guests are invited to join us, along with many of the stars of the film, for a VIP party. Tickets start at $500.
