Although Tim and Katie Connor have only been members since late 2008, they have been an important force in E2's Rocky Mountains chapter. Tim knew former chapter leader David Readerman well from many years working together and he and Katie were sold on the organization and our message after attending a couple of EcoSalons in Colorado. Katie previously worked as an environmental engineer and consultant with power companies and research institutions, and Tim has experience with cleantech sector investments as a Partner at Sequel Venture Partners, but neither had before seen an organization that emphasized the business and economic aspects of environmental policy. "The recognition that there does not have to be a trade-off between business and environment," says Katie, "is refreshing and what's needed for a host of new challenges."

Tim, who was a delegate on E2's 2009 trip to Washington, DC, adds, "There is a purity of our message because it's coming from concerned, informed individuals and not large companies, which strengthens our position." Tim and Katie have been active purveyors of E2's message via Action Alerts and events as well. "We'd done absolutely no calls or letters before becoming members, and it's been a great learning experience."

Katie recently agreed to become an E2 Rocky Mountains chapter leader and will join Andrew Currie in that post this September. She is looking forward to becoming more involved as a chapter leader, especially in efforts to increase membership and expand the chapter's education and communication efforts. She is also looking forward to teaming with E2's other chapters, as well as with local organizations in Colorado, to most effectively leverage different areas of expertise and services.

Both she and Tim are plugged into local environmental and cleantech issues and recognize that addressing global warming is critical to the country and Colorado. Cleantech is becoming a very important sector in Colorado and offers an opportunity to strengthen and diversify the economy. Tim is actively involved in the Colorado Cleantech Industry Association, which works to advance the cleantech sector.

"Being involved in E2 Rox has definitely rekindled my interest in being involved in environmental issues again, particularly from a broader, less corporate perspective," says Katie. Tim has appreciated the opportunities to learn more about advocating environmental issues and access the research NRDC carries out. "The NRDC research is very complete and insightful - it helps us keep current on issues and to understand policy options and their implications."
